What is an energy audit?

An energy audit is a thorough, methodical examination of your building. It precisely identifies thermal loss sources, evaluates actual energy consumption and prioritises improvement works according to their impact and cost.

An in-depth energy audit goes far beyond a basic consumption assessment: it includes a site visit, in-situ measurements, full analysis of heating and ventilation systems, and modelling of renovation scenarios with return on investment estimates.

How does an energy audit work?

  • Data collection — plans, energy bills from last 3 years, existing systems, works history
  • Site visit — full visual inspection, measurements, annotated photographs
  • Modelling and calculations — simulation of consumption and savings per renovation scenario
  • Report and presentation — full document with thermal loss mapping, costed scenarios and ROI estimates

Current regulations 2025

  • Since 1 April 2023: mandatory audit for sale of buildings rated F or G
  • Since 1 January 2025: extended to buildings rated E
  • Tertiary sector decree: 40% consumption reduction by 2030 for commercial buildings over 1,000 m²
  • Large companies: audit every 4 years for companies with over 250 employees or €50M turnover
